The President of Djibouti, Mr. Ismaaciil Cumar Geelle, received today SSC-Khaatumo leaderAbdikadir Ahmed Aw-Ali Firdhiye, who is currently in Djibouti.
Reports indicate they discussed regional issues, particularly the SSC-Khaatumo region, where a conflict has been ongoing for eight months with the Somaliland administration.
RTD media did not report on the meeting between Mr. Geelle and Firdhiye. However, reliable sources informed us that the meeting was preliminary and aimed at building trust.
The people of the SSC-Khaatumo region previously stated that the Djibouti government provided military support and vehicles to Somaliland forces. Somaliland forces were defeated by the SSC-Khaatumo forces on August 25, 2023.
Additionally, Mr. Firdhiye met with the leaders of the IGAD organization, headquartered in Djibouti. The meeting between IGAD and SSC-Khaatumo directly addressed the issue of Somaliland prisoners held in the city of Laas Caanood.
The Chairman of IGAD, Workneh Gebeyehu, who hails from Ethiopia, did not attend the meeting. Ethiopia reached an understanding with the Somaliland administration on January 1, 2024.
